With the many diet trends and fads out there, it can really leave you feeling confused. There are so many different options that promise you results, and yet so many of them seem too good to be true.

You may feel frustrated with the whole process to lose weight in the first place, so what happens when you have unlimited options before you? Can it make losing weight even more difficult if you are given too many food choices?

Sometimes it might seem like having a lot of options is a good thing, but in this case it really can work against you. Think of how great having control over your diet can be, but if you have too many options it can put you in a place to overeat or to make the wrong food choices. Either way, you want to try to keep a level head and that comes through choosing foods that are good for you, nutritious, and naturally lower in fat and calories. Just as you wouldn’t want to go to an all you can eat buffet when you are working to lose weight, you don’t want to have too many options available to you, for they can work against you.

If you’re still not sure how this can present a problem, think of what this can mean for your ability to stay disciplined. Think of how this can interfere with your best intentions or your diet plan overall. No matter what you are doing to try and shed some of the weight, it’s all about creating the right lifestyle and making the best choices to get you there. Here’s why too many choices can be a bad thing for you overall.

You are overwhelmed and much more likely to overeat:

When you have so many things before you then it makes your likelihood of overeating greater. Think of how your eyes can be bigger than your stomach sometimes, and this will hold especially true if you have unlimited options before you. If you want to stick with the plan and make good choices, then you need much less in the way of choices. Too much before you will feed into you eating more than you really need. It means bigger portion sizes, more food altogether and therefore your inability to turn away from overeating—and that most definitely will not help you to lose weight or keep it off either!

You are much more likely to turn to the wrong foods, as they are tempting and overtake the healthier choices:

If you’re really being honest with yourself, would you opt for fruit if you had the choice of chocolate cake? If you had a choice between a salad and fries, would you always opt for the healthier one? Most of us can’t honestly say that we would choose the healthy option if we had other things before us. So when you limit yourself to healthy choices and keep it more structured and disciplined in this manner, then you are forced to make healthy choices. This will eventually become your norm, but you have to give yourself time to get there!

You need some sort of structure to help you create a proper diet and stick to it:

If you want to lose weight the right way and keep it off, then you have to create a healthy lifestyle. A big part of that is some sort of structure or guidelines in terms of what you eat and how you eat it. If you have too many options it’s nearly impossible to stick with the plan. If you limit yourself to the right foods though and keep that as your new norm, then eventually you will be able to turn away from the wrong ones with ease. Start off with limited options and then you will definitely create healthy eating habits, and in time that will be what you do automatically without even thinking about it.
