Are you hoping to achieve major weight loss? Then there are certain things that you need to know regarding how your body will really look after you accomplish your goal. Many people who lose a lot of weight in a short span of time are surprised by how their bodies look because of this drastic change. Being prepared can help you love your body at every step of the way.

Loose Skin Is Left Behind When You Lose Fat

After losing a lot of body fat and achieving major weight loss, many people end up with embarrassing saggy skin. As you can imagine, those who experience this loose skin want nothing more than to get rid of it. They may feel as though they are wearing a “fat suit” because they know that they are thin, but their body doesn’t really show it.

What causes sagging skin after major weight loss? Well, according to NBC News, after you lose a lot of weight (around 100 pounds or more) quickly, whether through traditional diet and exercise or with the help of a weight loss surgery, the skin isn’t able to snap back as it should. The skin that had stretched out so much when the weight gain occurred doesn’t have the chance to shrink back down with the rest of the body. It’s really a matter of your skin’s elasticity not having ample opportunity to adapt because the weight loss occurred so quickly.

Solutions to the Loose Skin of Major Weight Loss

There are ways to get rid of saggy skin if you have lost a lot of weight and you are embarrassed by the skin that the weight loss has left behind. Many people opt for cosmetic surgery to remove the skin quickly. But, these types of surgeries can be costly, recovery can take a long time and be painful, and scars might be left behind. As an alternative, you can keep eating right and exercising to build muscle beneath the skin and fill it out.

The best thing that you can do is try to avoid excessive, sagging skin while you are losing weight by shedding the pounds gradually. Work with your doctor to come up with a diet and exercise plan that will work for you, and then lose a small amount of weight consistently over a longer period of time. Doing so will help your skin snap back as your body slims down.
