Sometimes it feels as though the information in the news about what you should and shouldn’t eat is constantly changing. If you are somebody who feels unsure about the final verdict surrounding things like carbs, fat, or even the amount of protein you really need then you’re not alone.

They may taste good due to their high concentration of saturated fats or even trans fats, but they are actually hurting you bite for bite. Don’t fall into the trap of eating these foods that you know are bad for you, because in the end they will only ever hurt you and it’s not worth the risk.

Never eat out of convenience or grab something on the go without thought: If we’re being really honest, when we eat out of convenience good things never tend to happen. Break the cycle once and for all! When you eat out of convenience or live to eat, rather than eat to live, you are engaging in a horrible health trend. You eat bad fat, such as fried foods or fast foods, simply out of convenience and because they require much less work than preparing a healthy meal. Fueling yourself means eating foods that give you nutrients and help protect your health, which ultimately is what good fats are all about.

Focus on the good fats that give you something back: Suffice it to say that good fats are called that for a reason. When you eat good fats you take in a high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower your cholesterol, help you lose weight, and also protect your heart. Good examples of the right type of fats include avocados, walnuts and almonds, flaxseeds, olive oil and coconut oil, and fish such as tuna and salmon. Make the switch and you will be so glad that you did!

Make healthy substitutions and you won’t miss the wrong type of fat in the end: Stop using the wrong ingredients and give your recipes a true overhaul. When you consider that a bad fat can start with the way you prepare food, such as frying it or even the oil you use to cook it in, then it’s easy to make the switch. Yes, you do need fat, but you need the right type to protect your health—and making the switch from the wrong type to the good fats can help you be your best now and in the long-term!
