If you spend enough time looking into weight loss supplements, then it won’t take you long to come across the name Phendimetrazine.  In fact, before you even spot that prescription drug, you’ll likely have seen it mentioned under one of its brand name versions such as Bontril.

The reason it is very likely that you have come across this medication before is that it is prescribed quite commonly to patients with obesity.

As a prescription diet pill, Phendimetrazine does not technically fall in the category of weight loss supplements. This is because, unlike the rest of the products within that category, this medication cannot be obtained without a prescription from a licensed physician. Moreover, while it can be effective in combating obesity when combined with a healthful diet and fitness-appropriate activity level, it is not safe or appropriate for all dieters.

Doctors will not prescribe Phendimetrazine in the same way that they provide recommendations for weight loss supplements.  Why?  It’s not because they don’t want to help you.  It’s actually because they must follow strict guidelines when it comes to prescribing anti-obesity drugs.  These pills have been designed specifically for people who are obese or who are very overweight and whose excess weight is adding to their risk of certain health conditions such as heart disease or type II diabetes.

Moreover, while most dietary supplements for losing weight have not received approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as that is not what that government agency does, prescription medications are required to undergo a strict process involving several stages of testing and research in order to receive FDA clearance.

That said, while it has received FDA approval, the use of Phendimetrazine has been associated with a spectrum of different side effects ranging from mild to quite severe – though the latter occur only in rare cases.

The benefits of taking this diet pill help to show why it has become one of the most commonly prescribed medications for dieters despite the risk of side effects.  It functions as an anorectic, which means that it suppresses the appetite for the purpose of making it easier to cut back on the amount of food that the dieter eats every day.  Without hunger getting in the way, many dieters find it simpler to shrink their daily calorie intake.

According to study results, the average user of this medication will lose 5 to 10 percent of body weight over the span of a year, which clearly makes Phendimetrazine a leading weight loss supplement. Speak with your doctor to see if this prescription is right for you.
